 "캐릭터를 바라보는 것만으로 즐거운 게임"
 넥슨 '빈딕투스: 디파잉 페이트(이하 빈디페)'의 커스터마이징은 '마비노기 영웅전'처럼 캐릭터의 얼굴은 바꿀 수 없고 체형만 조정할 수 있다. 주요 부위는 모두 조정 가능하지만 최신 게임들의 세밀한 커스터마이징과 비교하면 아쉬운 구성이다.
 그 아쉬움을 각종 의상이 보완했다. 커스터마이징은 다소 심심했지만 의상을 곁들이면 개성을 표현하기엔 충분했다. 커스터마이징과 별개로 모든 의상을 게임 내 재화로 얻을 수 있는 시스템도 만족스러웠다.
 9일 오전 11시 빈디페 글로벌 알파 테스트를 개시한 빈디페는 넥슨 대표 IP 마비노기 영웅전의 켈트 신화 기반 판타지 세계관을 바탕으로 개발 중인 액션 RPG다. 원작을 바탕으로 새롭게 재해석된 스토리 진행과 함께 싱글 플레이 중심의 또 다른 재미의 전투 시스템 및 콘텐츠 제공을 목표로 개발 중이다.
 기자는 마비노기 영웅전을 아티펙트 출시 전까지 즐겼다. 이비와 벨라로 라키오라, 크라켄까지 재밌게 공략했지만 점점 늘어나는 성장 요소와 과금 모델에 결국 손을 놓았다. 당시 솔로잉 마비노기 영웅전이 출시되면 좋겠다고 간절하게 원했던 기억이 있다. 그 염원이 빈디페로 이뤄진 셈이다.
 기대감을 가득 안고 게임을 켜자 메인 화면에서 들려오는 마비노기 영웅전 티이의 BGM 'Spring Sunshine'로 잠시 동안 추억에 잠겼다. 감미롭고 애절한 멜로디. 오랜만에 들어도 익숙한 곡이다.
 게임을 즐기기에 앞서 커스터마이징을 세밀하게 살펴봤다. 빈디페 커스터마이징은 마비노기 영웅전 구조와 유사하다. 여타 RPG처럼 직업을 선택하는 구조가 아닌 캐릭터가 고정된 게임이라 외모 조정은 제공하지 않는다. 얼굴 조정만 가능한 로스트아크 커스터마이징과 반대되는 구조다.

 메인 화면에서 신장과 근육량을 설정하면 상세 설정에서 머리 크기, 목 둘레, 상반신 둘레, 허리 둘레, 가슴 크기, 골반 너비, 팔 두께, 허벅지 둘레, 종아리 둘레를 조정할 수 있다.
 각 부위의 설정 범위는 넓은 편이다. 마비노기 영웅전 특유의 부담스러운 크기까지 조정할 수 있다. 언리얼 엔진 5의 고퀄리티 그래픽으로 여러 신체 부위를 최대 크기로 설정하니까 오히려 부담스러웠다. 적정 수준이 잘 어울렸다. 체형 설정 이후 피부 색상과 윤기를 조정하면 마무리된다.
 많은 게이머가 우려했던 마비노기 영웅전의 이너아머 변경 시스템은 없다. 원작에서는 흔히 내복이라 불리는 기본 이너아머를 벗으려면 과금으로 다른 이너아머를 구매해야 가능했다. 빈딕투스에서는 일반적인 브래지어, 팬티 형태의 속옷을 기본으로 제공한다.
 직접 체험한 결과 장, 단점이 뚜렸했다. 장점이라면 커스터마이징에 많은 시간을 투자하지 않아도 된다. 최신 게임들은 보통 자유도 높은 커스터마이징 기능을 제공한다. 머리카락, 속눈썹 길이까지 세밀하게 조정할 수 있으니까 캐릭터 생성에만 1시간 이상 소모한 적도 있다. 빈디페에서는 이러한 고민을 하지 않아도 된다.
 단점은 역시 자유도다. 언리얼 엔진 5의 고퀄리티 그래픽은 커스터마이징의 재미를 한층 끌어올렸다. 이에 많은 게임이 세밀한 커스터마이징 기능을 제공하고 커스터마이징만 전문적으로 다루는 유저들도 많이 늘어났다. 이러한 관점에선 아쉬움이 컸다.

 커스터마이징은 게임 플레이 도중에도 의상실에서 자유롭게 재조정할 수 있다. 그리고 무기, 머리, 상의, 하의, 장갑, 신발, 렌즈, 눈 메이크업, 볼 메이크업, 입솔 메이크업, 얼굴 흉터, 몸 흉터, 몸 점, 피부 톤 아이템 등 각종 의상 아이템들이 커스터마이징의 아쉬움을 조금이나마 해소했다.
 알파 테스트 기준 스타일 상점 내 제공된 의상은 총 22종이다. 고전 판타지풍 의상뿐만 아니라 현대식 캐주얼 의상도 제공하고 부위별로 착용 가능하니까 다양한 코디가 가능했다. 가슴이나 엉덩이 밑, 허벅지에 점을 찍어 포인트를 줄 수도 있다.
 염색은 원작처럼 앰플로 바꾸는 방식이다. 염색 부위는 정해져 있지만 거의 모든 부위라고 봐도 무방할 정도로 자유도가 높다. 염색 앰플의 색상은 원작과 달리 자유롭게 정할 수 있다. 리얼 화이트, 리얼 블랙, 리얼 레드 등 인기 앰플에 목메지 않아도 된다.
 정리하자면 빈디페 커스터마이징은 다소 심심한 커스터마이징 구성을 다양한 의상으로 보완한 구조다. 커스터마이징 장인급 유저들에겐 아쉬운 구성이지만 개성을 표현하기에는 충분하다.
 무엇보다 의상을 게임 재화로 구매하는 방식이 마음에 들었다. 각 부위 아이템은 스타일 상점에서 게임 재화인 '헤네르'로 구매 가능하다. 의상을 다 모으기 위해 보스 토벌을 반복하는 등 지속적인 플레이 동기 부여로서의 역할을 톡톡히 수행했다. 정식 버전에서 어떤 과금 모델을 채택할지 알 수 없으나 이 구조만큼은 변하지 않길 바란다.
