 이날 '애모 가족' 엄마는 "아들이 저를 폭행했다. 나를 밀치고 몰아세웠다"며 아들의 폭행을 폭로했다. 아들은 단백질 보충제를 구입하자 엄마가 "너는 제대로 하지도 않으면서 사놓기만 엄청나게 사냐"고 했다며 평생 어머니로부터 공감과 인정을 받아보지 못했다고 털어놨다. 
 엄마는 며느리가 손주에게 죽을 억지로 먹이는 것 같은 생각에 아들에게 '그건 학대'라고 메시지를 보냈는데 돌아오는 아들의 반응이 '당신이 학대를 운운해?'였다며 서운함을 토로했다. 
 아들은 아들 나름의 이유가 있었다. 어린 시절 아버지의 지갑에 손을 대 장난감을 샀을 때 추운 겨울, 눈이 오는 날이었지만 속옷 차림으로 쫓겨나 죽음의 공포를 느꼈고, 쫓아낸 뒤 단 한 번도 밖을 내다보지 않았던 엄마에게 두려움을 느꼈다고 털어놨다. 
 또 고등학생 때는 자신과 동생의 방에 CCTV가 설치됐었다고. 엄마는 공부는 하지 않고 컴퓨터만 해서 한 대만 설치했다고 설명했지만 아들은 당시 동생 방엔 컴퓨터도 없었고, 방 2개의 채널 번호까지 기억하고 있었다. 이로 인해 아들은 일주일간 가출을 감행했고, 집에 돌아와 잠을 잘 때 엄마가 나무 빗자루로 자신을 때렸다며, 그 얼굴이 아직도 기억난다고 말했다. 당시 엄마는 컴퓨터 게임을 하는 게 못마땅해 모니터 4대를 부쉈다고. 
 이에 엄마는 20대 때 큰 교통사고가 나 전두엽을 다쳐 감정 조절이 어려웠다고 하면서도 아들에게 한 행동이 "죽을죄는 아니지 않냐"고 웃으면서 말해 충격을 안겼다. 
 스튜디오에서 아들은 다른 일화가 있는지 묻자 초등학교 1학년 때 리코더 끝에 달린 금속으로 엄마에게 머리를 맞아 두피가 찢어져 봉합을 했었다고 털어놨으나, 엄마는 이도 기억하지 못했다. 
 아들에겐 공포로 남은 학대의 기억은 기억하지 못하면서, 아들이 자신에게 가한 한 번의 폭력만을 기억하는 엄마를 보며 오은영 박사는 "물론 아드님이 폭행한 것은 하면 안 되고 나쁘지만 기억이 너무 선택적이지 않냐. 어머니와 대화를 하기 위해 찾아온 아드님의 모습은 가정폭력 피해자들의 대표적인 모습이다. 아드님이 어릴 때 겪은 일들은 가정폭력이 맞다. 아동학대가 맞다. 아드님은 유독 어머니와 함께할 때 더 눈을 못 맞추고 위축되고 주눅 들어 있다. 두려운 상태가 정확한 표현"이라고 하며 "어머니는 좋은 뜻으로 한 걸 안 따라줬을 때 화가 시작되는 것 같다. 잘 되라고 시작한 거라면 어떤 방법을 써도 되고 어떤 행동을 해도 돼, 너는 내 새끼니까라는 마음이 있었던 것 같다. 그때 화가 나면 그다음부터는 전두엽의 손상 때문에 과잉 체벌을 하는 것 같다. 그러나 모든 원인을 전두엽에 돌리기보단 어머님이 자녀를 어떻게 생각하는지에 대한 관점을 잘 살펴봐야 할 것 같다"고 지적했다.
